THE ORIGIN OF MY LOVE FOR AUTOMOTIVE VEHICLES : THE FAST & THE FURIOUS TOKYO DRIFT

There were too many things I adored about that one movie, such as the neo-futuristic colour palette, the aggressive Y2K fashion and the vivid, thrill-seeking portrayal of Japanese racing culture. The movie may have done several things wrong but one thing they nailed, was the cars they used. Every single car in the movie, including the Hulk themed 2005 Touran, was a spot on representation of the drift culture. More importantly, the fact that the Toyotas and Nissans we sometimes may grow tired of having to see, on the streets of Dhaka, were now incredibly cool powerhorses that drove as flashy as they looked. I became infatuated with JDM’s shortly after and every time I saw a Lancer or an RX-8, I would become giddy at the thought that one day I may be able to do the same things Sean did on that mountain and parking lot. The movie’s soundtrack was also nothing short of perfection, as Tokyo Drift by Teriyaki Boyz, to this day, has not stopped making me want to drive down Gulshan Avenue at twice the speed limit (even though I’m still a learner).
