The long-awaited Nissan Z Proto concept has finally been debuted and this is our first official look at how the Nissan 400z will look like. Being 10 years into production the Proto Z is more of a concept rather than a prototype and Nissan’s way of letting the world know they are still capable of making good sports cars. The Z Proto is a near exact representation of what the next Z will look like.
“the Proto Z has taken inspiration from all the Z cars of the previous generations”
At first sight you can tell the Proto Z has taken inspiration from all the Z cars of the previous generations. Starting from the legendary 240z like headlights to taillights inspired from the 300z and a rear hatch like design that has been influenced from the currently in production 370z, the Proto Z is like an amalgamation of all the best design cues of the previous Z cars put together in one!
However, inside the Proto Z is a completely different story. A sharp and sporty interior which looks modern like any 2020 sports car. This was a much-needed upgrade from the 370z which has been in production for over a decade now. The dash now consists of two displays- one for infotainment and the other will work as a digital cluster.
“the top end 400z will most likely come with a 3.5liter twin turbo V6 combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox”
When it comes to performance, the top end 400z will most likely come with a 3.5liter twin turbo V6 combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox that will produce 400hp and 350Nm of torque powering mainly the rear wheels. Since the 400z will be targeted mainly at the new 2020 Supra the 400z will also be released with less powerful 4-cylinder engine just like the base level Supra but the specs of this one is yet unknown. We still don’t have any information regarding the drivetrain though but we can assume the suspension and brakes will be similar to that of the Infinity Red line which the 400z has borrowed its engine from.
We still have no clue about when the 400z will come into production but one thing we know for sure is that whenever it does it will not let anyone down if it looks exactly like what the Proto Z and is offered with a manual from launch. Hopefully, with the release of the 400z, Nissan will be able to make a successful comeback after the recent controversy regarding the brand.
