With new generation consoles comes a whole new generation of games. For automotive enthusiasts, that spells the next iteration of many of their beloved games, i.e, Gran Turismo and Forza. Well good news for the Xbox side of the spectrum, because Xbox recently announced its plans to release a new Forza Motorsport, which is to be the 8th iteration in the Motorsport franchise. Forza Motorsport 7 has been the go-to for Xbox simulator racing games since 2017, and it’s about time for a new one. Though no release date has been given, the game will premiere on Xbox’s upcoming next-gen console, the Series X.
Xbox dropped an announcement trailer (can be found in their Youtube channel) during its Game Showcase livestream event, giving fans their very first look at what Forza will look like on a next-generation console. The trailer, containing scenes from a photo studio, the inside of a garage, and the corkscrew at Laguna Seca, shows some wildly detailed graphics that seem like a massive step up versus Forza 7. The Series X’s revamped specs are responsible for this upgrade, moving into a new world of graphical improvements. We got a brief look at some cool cars including a Mazda prototype car, a BAC Mono, and a handful of Apollo IEs racecars.
The next gen consoles with their souped up performance means simulator racing games are about to get much more realistic (visually and hopefully physics wise). Inside the Xbox Series Z is a 12-teraflop GPU, paired to a one-terabyte SSD. DirectX ray tracing and variable rate shading means the in-game lighting, colors, and reflections will look more natural than before. The ray tracing will also make things sound a lot better, so you can expect twice as more indulgence in the new generation of simracers.
